WWE Superstars might have hoped that the days of mass releases were no longer a thing, but they were mistaken. Now, a number of WWE Superstars have been cut from the company in a sweeping release.
Mustafa Ali said he is no longer working with WWE. It was then revealed that Emma was released today as well. Riddick Moss later joined his fiancé in free agency. It was later reported that Rick Boogs was released from his contract.
Sadly, Aliyah’s name joined that list later. It didn’t take long for fans to hear about Elias’ release. Top Dolla’s name joined those releases as well. A short time later, it was announced that Dolph Ziggler was released.
Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall that WWE Superstars believe that the company tried to “minimize the negative impact” on the company with these releases aligning with other big deals that they announced.
“The line of thinking from many on the roster is that WWE aligned these cuts with the announcement of Elimination Chamber and Smackdown rights fee deal in order to minimize the negative impact on the company. TKO’s stock dropped from $96.23 to $88.95 by 10:10 ET after the Smackdown announcement. The stock now sits at $86.94 as of 12:20 ET as news of releases have filtered in.”
WWE might want to minimize the impression that they make with these releases, but that won’t stop fans from talking about this. After all, they fired Emma on the same day that the company announced a huge Elimination Chamber event in Australia.
We will have to see what WWE does next. Hopefully, the days of cutting people is behind them. They fired over 100 people from their HQ last week as well. They also announced a massive deal with the USA Network to bring SmackDown to NBCU for five years.
