During the “Grand Slam” edition of AEW Dynamite on September 20, 2023, a ringside fan displayed an offensive and antisemitic sign directed at MJF, referencing a hurtful childhood incident the wrestler had previously shared.
“They’re holding rolls of quarters and all of them decided to throw the quarters at me as hard as they physically could, and they said ‘pick it up, Jew boy, pick it up.’”
The sign read, “MJF, I dropped a quarter,” accompanied by arrows pointing downward, alluding to an offensive stereotype about Jewish people being greedy.
This sign drew significant backlash on social media due to its offensive nature and perpetuation of harmful stereotypes. Many fans and viewers criticized the fan’s actions for promoting hate and intolerance.
In response to the sign, MJF took to Twitter to express his disappointment and anger. He revealed that he hadn’t noticed the sign during the event, expressing relief that he hadn’t seen it. MJF then issued a strong statement, saying, “Because the show would have ended abruptly. Along with his life.”
