CM Punk debuted in AEW with a lot of hype, as fans were simply elated to see him back to pro wrestling after seven long years. That is in the past now as CM Punk is no longer part of the company. Now it appears WWE doesn’t view signing CM Punk to be on the same level as Cody Rhodes.
CM Punk and Jack Perry had been suspended following their backstage confrontation at AEW All In, which eventually led to Tony Khan firing CM Punk. Khan would then provide the reason behind Punk’s firing.
According to Nick Hausman of HausOfWrestling.com, it was reported that WWE signing CM Punk isn’t viewed to be on the same level or buzz as WWE signing Cody Rhodes last year.
“One WWE source I spoke with noted that the buzz internally about Punk as a potential free agent is not there like it was when Cody Rhodes was rumored to be on the market at the beginning of 2022.
Another source told me that while there could be interest, timing is everything in the pro wrestling business, and at the moment, WWE’s product is hot and not necessarily in need of a big-name signing. With that said, multiple sources made it clear to me that they saw WWE and Punk working together as a possibility if good business can be done.”
Ringside News also exclusively reported that CM Punk wants fans to believe WWE is an option for him. Eric Bischoff also warned CM Punk that the clock is ticking on his in-ring career. We’ll have to wait and see whether Punk will make his way back to the company he walked out on a decade ago.
