The Rock’s return to WWE SmackDown for a one-night appearance brought a ton of attention from fans. That was an amazing performance, and the segment ran a bit long, but it was censored quite a bit as well.

The Rock had quite a moment with one young fan at ringside, and he electrified millions and millions of fans with his appearance. That being said, one part of the promo was a bit too hot for TV.

During that promo, The Rock got fans in Denver to chant “you’re an asshole” at Austin Theory. That was censored by FOX in a big way, and there is a reason for it.

Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall that those fan chants were edited due to the FCC, and it had nothing to do with the TV-PG rating. They literally had to censor the fan chants, because they wanted to avoid a violation.

“For those asking about the heavy edits to The Rock’s promo on Friday, it was because of possible FCC violations as opposed to anything “TV-PG” related. There is nothing connected to TV-PG that actually prevents foul language. It is not enforced like MPAA for movies, and ESRB for video games.”

We’ll have to see when The Rock returns to WWE next. There were reportedly talks of having a future meeting to talk about creative options. He still has the ability to capture a crowd, that was made very clear this week on SmackDown.
