Drew McIntyre is one of the top draws in WWE, and that is why his contract situation is so interesting. The former WWE Champion’s contract could be up sooner than later, but he has a bit more time on his deal than some might have thought.
Drew McIntyre made his WWE comeback at the 2023 Money in the Bank event held at London’s O2 Arena. This marked his return to action following a hiatus since WrestleMania, during which he took time off to recover from nagging injuries.
Drew McIntyre was asked about his WWE contract situation earlier today, and he gave quite an answer. In the end, he didn’t talk about it much, and his focus is in the ring doing whatever they book him.
“I mean, I keep reading the internet myself. I just saw something earlier. The internet keeps talking about my future, I guess. But my focus is on the here and now like I don’t look to the future, I don’t look to the past, I look to the present. And my job right now is just making sure we give everybody in Hyderabad the best show possible and I’ll continue to give the best performance I can give at every show and I can see I don’t plan to be anywhere else. That’s as much as I can give.”
PW Insider went on to note that WWE isn’t in a huge hurry to sign Drew McIntyre to a new contract. If anything, they have even more time. Since McIntyre needed to take so much time off after WrestleMania, the company has tacked those months onto his deal.
In asking WWE sources this week whether there had been any movement on signing McIntyre to a new deal, we were told that the company had been mostly focused on finalizing the Endeavor WWE acquisition, so there hadn’t been much, if any movement. We were also told that the company had not rushed to lock McIntyre into a new deal as they had time to work on it, with one source noting that with McIntyre having taken time off earlier this year, there was additional time added to his contract.
PWInsiderElite.com is told that the company has McIntyre now locked in until around WrestleMania 40, so that now gives the two sides in the area of seven months to finalize a new deal.
Drew McIntyre will be around WWE until around WrestleMania next year. That might be a great time for the company to place him in a nice feud, so it gives him an even bigger reason to stick around. On the other hand, if it is clear that McIntyre isn’t staying in WWE, then that might be apparent by his lack of booking on the showcase of the immortals.
AEW could always want Drew McIntyre eventually, and Impact Wrestling would probably be more than happy to have Drew Galloway come back. It appears that the Scottish Warrior has a few more stories to tell with WWE before that is even a concern.
