CM Punk was released from AEW, and that opened up his schedule in a big way. We’re unclear if there is a non-compete clause in place, so CM Punk might arrive anywhere as a big surprise. Now, it appears that the NWA is an option.
Ringside News exclusively reported that CM Punk wants fans to think that WWE is an option for him, but that’s not the case. He made “desperate attempts” at a WWE return a few years ago, and WWE had to tell FOX that he needed to be “controlled” on the WWE Backstage show, where he had a gig as an analyst.
We previously reported that Impact Wrestling is very excited about the idea of making an offer to CM Punk. We will have to see if he does anything there.
EC3, the present NWA worlds heavyweight champion, featured on Wrestle Binge podcast. During the appearance, he discussed the possibility of CM Punk facing him in a match.
“Obviously, CM Punk, Chicago ties with Billy Corgan so that would be a fantastic challenger. There is a lot of speculation and roundabout talking about the dealings with him and his previous employer, whatever. What I do think about him is that he is dynamite in the ring and dynamite on the microphone. We can definitely draw a lot of intrigue, and I’d be into it. Throwing that out there, to have him come in, would be a game changer. Our locker room has a more professional atmosphere sometimes, so I don’t think the shenanigans and tomfoolery of the intertwining and dramatics would take place as much as people striving to be the best version of themselves and the best version of anybody as EC3 as the Worlds Heavyweight Champion.
There are still a couple options for CM Punk out there in the pro wrestling world. If anything, Heels hasn’t been cancelled yet, so there’s always a chance fans will see him on that Starz show again.
Impact Wrestling and NWA might be interested in CM Punk, but they also have to be aware of his track record. That being said, he is still a draw, and fans will follow him.
