WWE has plans in the pipeline for a lot of people, but sometimes they just want to lock down a talent in case they come up with something. That seems to be the case for Carlito.
Ringside News exclusively reported that WWE had no intention of debuting Carlito at the SmackDown in Madison Square Garden. That was a rumor that got out of control, but it wasn’t true.
Ringside News later went on to exclusively report that a tenured member of the team told us that Carlito has “been mostly down in Orlando working with character vignettes.” At this time, “nobody is talking about him.”
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was asked about Carlito’s status with WWE. He confirmed that the company did sign him, and they currently have no real plan in place for him.
“He signed at the start of July. He pulled off of all his indies, so he was ready to start, he signed. He had a start-date, he was there, but they couldn’t figure out what to do with him, and they still haven’t figured out what to do with him.”
It was also noted that WWE has done this kind of thing before, like with Harry Smith. They signed the British Bulldog’s son, and they never used him, only deciding to release him after he wrestled one dark match.
We will keep a close eye on this situation with Carlito. Only time will tell what they decide to do with him, but he’s apparently getting some sort of WWE paycheck right now if he signed on the dotted line.
