Kevin Kelly has announced his impending departure from New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
Kelly took to social media to share the news, revealing that he will be leaving NJPW “at some point soon.”
Despite his departure, Kelly has confirmed that he will be present for specific upcoming events, including NJPW Destruction at Ryogoku on October 9 and Wrestle Kingdom on January 4, 2024, along with New Year Dash on the night following Wrestle Kingdom.
“I am at some point soon but I’ll leave it to New Japan to announce it or not. I plan on calling Destruction at Ryogoku and Wrestle Kingdom/ New Year Dash.”
Kelly’s decision appears to be influenced by personal factors, as he mentioned that his wife of 32 years expressed a desire not to be alone any longer. This heartfelt reason has played a significant role in shaping his choice to leave NJPW.
“My wife of 32 years said she doesn’t want to be alone anymore so that’s why I made the decision.”
The commentator has been an integral part of NJPW since 2015, contributing his distinct voice and insights to the promotion’s broadcasts. In addition to his NJPW responsibilities, Kelly recently secured a role as the lead announcer for AEW Collision.
