Dakota Kai was released in May 2022 but returned during SummerSlam that year, where she returned as part of Damage CTRL alongside Bayley and Iyo Sky. While she won championship gold afterwards, things didn’t go well for Kai. Unfortunately, Kai won’t return to the ring anytime soon.
Dakota Kai has history of injuries. She is out of action with another ACL injury, one that required surgery to repair and it will still be quite a while until she is able to make her in-ring return.
While speaking on her Twitch stream, Kai was asked when she would be wrestling again. Dakota Kai confirmed that she will not be medically cleared until January next year and it still might take longer for her to return as a full-time WWE Superstar.
“Probably 2024. I do think it’s funny that a lot of people are like, ‘she’s not injured at all. Look at her walking around.’ ACL injury, I haven’t even learned how to start running and jumping again yet. I think I’m going to start running this week. ACL recovery, especially for someone in sport, we use our legs a lot. If I were a desk worker, I’d be back at work. Because it’s wrestling, I won’t be cleared until January.”
WWE also changed plans in order to keep her on television despite her injury. We will have to wait and see how the company will continue to use her as part of Damage CTRL until her in-ring return next year.
