John Cena is a seasoned actor at this point, and he owes his career to WWE. Naturally, when he had the downtime that the SAG-AFTRA Strike provided him, he made a return to the company. Interestingly enough, he saw a change of plans on his first day back.
As we exclusively reported, Ringside News reached out to ask about John Cena’s WWE return, and how long this has been planned. We were told by a tenured member of the team that, “Cena has been discussing a return since the SAG strike.” It appears that Cena has found a way to stay busy during his downtime.
Sean Sapp reported behind Fightful’s paywall to say that John Cena was actually set to interrupt Jimmy Uso’s promo on SmackDown instead. That being said, WWE decided to have Cena open the show instead, so they flipped things.
“Originally, John Cena was listed as interrupting a Jimmy Uso promo on Smackdown, instead of the other way around.”
John Cena was also only told on Friday that he would be hosting WWE Payback. That part of his promo was true, even though we had reported this role for him on the previous night.
John Cena’s return to WWE is an exciting thing for fans, because he will be back for two months worth of programming. SmackDown might see added interest for the next several weeks as John Cena makes the best of this strike situation.
