CM Punk May Not Have Non-Compete Clause As Part Of His AEW Release

AEW announced during Collision that CM Punk was fired. Tony Khan stated that this was something he didn’t want to do, but it was for the roster’s safety. It didn’t take long for the company to replace him at All Out, either. That being said, there are a lot of questions about his release.

Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall that it is unclear at this time whether CM Punk has a non-compete clause or severance package associated with his release. That being sad, that might not matter, because he’s very likely not going back to WWE.

While it was noted the termination was with cause, thus far we do not know if there is a non-compete attached, or a severance or severance period. As a result, we don’t know when Punk would be eligible for a move to another wrestling company. He still has major heat with numerous top names in WWE, and was asked to leave earlier this year when he showed up. There had been no real expectations or plans of Punk heading to WWE, and most people we spoke to there didn’t think he was going to be fired.

Jack Perry was not at Collision this week, and CM Punk obviously wasn’t there, since he was fired. We will keep our eye out for more on this story, because there could be even more to come out. There is footage of the fight, after all.

CM Punk also threatened to quit during the ordeal during All In, but he wrestled that “Real” World Title match in Wembley Stadium anyway. After he won that match, Tony Khan suspended CM Punk and also Jack Perry, something that Punk was informed of through his attorney. We have not been told how he was notified of his release.
