CM Punk was fired from AEW, but that might not have been a bad thing for him. After all, Punk is rich, and he doesn’t need to work. There is a thought going around that he wanted his AEW release to go down.
CM Punk was released from AEW, and that closed story that many fans didn’t think would be over so soon. Tony Khan made that call, and Punk is gone.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez noted that he was told that some people in AEW believed that CM Punk was trying to get out of his AEW contract. Dave Meltzer followed up by saying that he heard the same thing, although he doesn’t know what Punk was actually thinking.
“I can’t say, because I cannot get into his brain, but yes … there were a lot of people who thought that when that contract was signed with the Young Bucks and Page and everything that he wanted out, and he was gonna, something was gonna happen.”
That investigation into CM Punk’s situation dove into a lot more than just his altercation with Jack Perry at All In London. In the end, the decision was made that it was best for the company that CM Punk receive his release. Punk was also released from multiple contracts.
CM Punk did tell people that he “hated” AEW before his release. That could have played into it. If anything, whether Punk wanted to be gone or not, he certainly has his freedom once again.
Jack Perry was not at Collision this week, and CM Punk obviously wasn’t there, because he was fired. There is footage of the fight, as Meltzer noted that there were security cameras around the backstage area. Of course, AEW dove into more than just his backstage fight during their investigation about his release.
Keep checking back with Ringside News for more on this ongoing story. There could be a lot more to unpack eventually, especially if CM Punk does a shoot interview.
