Booker T is recognizable for pro wrestling fans all over the world now. There was a time when his face didn’t ring a bell with pro wrestling. In fact, some people thought he looked like someone else.
Booker T has been wrestling for decades. SNL alum Eddie Murphy was still a big star when Booker T took his first trip to Japan, and that led to an interesting problem for him.
During his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T revealed that he was mistaken for Eddie Murphy by people in Japan upon his first visit. He swore this was a true story.
“First time I went to Japan, people thought I was Eddie Murphy. I swear to god. True story. True story. The first time I went to Japan, people thought I was Eddie Murphy.”
When Booker T was asked what they said, the two-time WWE Hall of Famer revealed that they would insist that he was the Nutty Professor star.
“You’re Eddie Murphy. You’re Eddie Murphy. Yeah, I swear to god. They said it to me several times, that I look like Eddie Murphy.”
Booker T didn’t admit that he copped to being Eddie Murphy. It’s very likely that if Booker T went back to Japan now, then he would be spotted as himself instead. After all, he’s done a pretty good job making himself famous since then.
Eddie Murphy and Booker T’s careers are still going, and they are involved in their own worlds. Only time will tell if they ever link up for something down the line, but they have done a good enough job on their own at this point. That being said, this story still exists to connect them.
