WWE Hall of Famer The Honky Tonk Man is undoubtedly one of the most important pro wrestlers in the history of the company. He holds the record of being the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time, and Gunther is set to break that record. Now it appears the Honky Tonk Man claimed that WWE shortened his title reign by 1 day.
Gunther won the WWE Intercontinental Championship in June 2022 and has since defended it quite a few times already. With each win, Gunther’s stock continues to rise and he becomes more and more dominating.
Honky Tonk Man is listed as having the title for 453 days and Gunther is currently sitting at 444 days as the champion. While speaking during a virtual signing with Highspots, Honky Tonk Man accused WWE of shortening his title reign by 1 day.
“It’s been interesting. I haven’t really kept up with it, I didn’t know a lot about it. [Fans] ask me about it all the time. I don’t know where someone is posting this 453 days. They’re shorting me one day and that’s not fair. I got the 454 days from Howard Finkel, he was the one who told me.”
Gunther would surpass WWE’s listed record for Honky Tonk Man on September 7 and this is not something Gunther aimed for. Regardless, nothing will stop Gunther from breaking Honky Tonk Man’s record and that’s all that matters.
