Gunther is in the middle of an iconic run as the Intercontinental Champion in Vince McMahon’s company. The Ring General continues to dominate the competition and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon. Now it appears he wants to separate his wrestling and real-life personalities.

The Ring General won the WWE Intercontinental Championship in June last year and has since defended it quite a few times already. With each win, Gunther’s stock continues to rise and he becomes more and more dominating.

While speaking with Sam Roberts, Gunther stated that he tries to not identify himself by who his wrestling character is. Gunther made it clear that he wants to separate his wrestling and real-life personalities.

“There’s obviously different sides to this profession, like the professional person that is me and obviously there is the private person that is me.”

“Sometimes I think they don’t have that much in common, but I think that’s a healthy balance, I think at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how much you enjoy it, it doesn’t matter how much it means to me, it is my profession, and we’ve all got to have a different side of life that has nothing to do with that. I try really try to not build or identify myself, in life in general, through who I am in the ring.”

Gunther also lost to Chad Gable on Monday Night RAW this week. It remains to be seen whether Gunther will end up defending his titles at the Payback Premium Live Event next month.
