CM Punk’s run in WWE came to a shocking halt after the Royal Rumble in 2014 when he was frustrated with the company, which led to him walking out. Punk’s relationship with WWE is far from the best right now, but it appears even Road Dogg believes his return would move the needle, unlike FTR and The Young Bucks.
The Second City Saint pushed the envelope in WWE as far as promos and creative freedom were concerned. Fans were drawn to Punk’s anti-authority style of promos and could relate to them.
While speaking on the Oh You Didn’t Know podcast, WWE Hall of Fame Road Dogg was asked if there were any wrestlers outside of WWE he would like to see back. Road Dogg named CM Punk as he would be a needle mover and made it clear he would rather bring back Punk than sign FTR and The Young Bucks.
“I immediately start thinking about who is the most marketable guy out there. And I don’t see anyone that, like, you have to have.”
“Punk coming back would move the needle in a big way. I don’t know how relationships are with that … but that would move the needle. So, if I had to say somebody, it would be him, but I would only say him from a controversial standpoint … in my mind anyway, I think he’s a controversial figure at this point — and I think that’s good for business.”
CM Punk is back in the fold as part of AEW Collision but managed to cause a lot of drama once again. Regardless, it is highly unlikely WWE will ever sign CM Punk again and fans have accepted that now.
