Cash Wheeler was arrested on aggravated assault with a firearm earlier last week and fans were worried what would happen to him. AEW is monitoring the situation and now it appears the company is unlikely to punish Wheeler after his arrest.
The arrest stemmed from serious charge of aggravated assault involving a firearm, an incident that transpired back on July 28. The alleged victim claimed Wheeler brandished a firearm. A warrant for Wheeler’s arrest was issued the following day.
It was added that Wheeler pleaded not guilty via his attorney on August 3rd. He was subsequently released on a $2,500 bond and was required to relinquish all of his firearms to the authorities.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about Cash Wheeler’s situation after his arrest. Meltzer noted that it doesn’t look like Wheeler will be punished by AEW after what happened.
“It doesn’t look like he is going to be punished at this point. As far as the story goes it did die down. So yeah, I don’t expect it, there has been no indication of anything like that. If the company got any heat over it then perhaps but I don’t get that feeling at all.”
Despite these developments, FTR’s AEW Tag Team Title defense against The Young Bucks will still take place at AEW All In on August 27th. That said, FTR didn’t appear on Collision this week. We’ll have to see whether FTR will be able to retain their titles at the event.
