WWE signed one-legged wrestler Zach Gowen in 2003, and he had a brief stint on the blue brand. The 40-year-old was involved in feuds with some of the biggest names on television at the time, including Vince McMahon and Brock Lesnar. It appears he commented on his match with Lesnar recently.
Brock Lesnar had reverted to being a full-fledged heel, regularly targeting SmackDown’s babyfaces by August 2003. On August 19th, 2003, during a SmackDown taping, he met Zach Gowen in a singles competition and viciously beat him up in front of his mother.
As a result, Gowen won against The Beast Incarnate by disqualification. Gowen was released from his WWE contract in early 2004 but has remained active in the independent circuit.
While speaking on a recent episode of The False Finish, Zach Gowen talked about his singles match with Brock Lesnar on an August 2003 episode of SmackDown. Gowen stated that he believes the match was one of the most violent in history.
“As I get there [to ‘SmackDown’], they tell me the idea of me and Brock, which I’m really ecstatic about because I’m like, ‘I know we can do something really, really special here, I know it.’”
“All the pieces are there, and we put the match together and it’s one of the most violent matches in WWE history.”
“It was only five, six minutes long. They needed Brock to be hated, and creative thought to themselves, ‘How can we get Brock [hated]?’ Like you said, beat up the local kid with one leg in front of his mom, bloody mess.
That was the first time I ever [bladed] in my life was on ‘SmackDown,’ which is why it’s a lot. It wasn’t supposed to be that much, but I didn’t know what the hell I was doing. Again, not something you’ll ever see WWE do again.”
As for Brock Lesnar, he lost to Cody Rhodes at the WWE SummerSlam Premium Live Event and is expected to be away for a while. We’ll have to wait and see when Lesnar will return to WWE television.
