AEW Dynamite Results Coverage, Reactions & Highlights For August 16, 2023

Tonight promises another exciting night of action as Orange Cassidy defends his AEW International Championship against Wheeler Yuta. Also scheduled for tonight is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Deathmatch between Jeff Jarrett and Jeff Hardy. The complete match card is as follows:

AEW Dynamite Opener:

The opening package for the show airs. The commentators welcome the audience to the show.

AEW International Championship: Orange Cassidy (c) vs. Wheeler Yuta

Orange Cassidy’s music plays and he walks to the ring. Wheeler Yuta’s theme song plays and he comes out to the ring.

The match begins and Cassidy knocks down Yuta. They both exchange arm drags. Both men exchange strikes. Yuta with a back suplex. Cassidy comes back with a back suplex. They both knock each other down.

Cassidy attacks and stomps Yuta. Yuta sends Cassidy out of the ring and dives onto him. Cassidy with a suplex on Yuta. Yuta comes back with a piledriver on the entrance ramp. Yuta mocks Cassidy with a couple of kicks before giving him a stiff kick. He sends Cassidy into the ring. Cassidy hits the beach break. Cover! 1….2….kick out.

*Commercial break*

Yuta knocks down Cassidy and stomps his hand. Cassidy comes back with a dropkick sending him out of the ring. Cassidy hits the suicide dive on Yuta and sends him back into the ring. Cassidy climbs the top rope but is stopped. Yuta hits a superplex. He hits the diving splash. Cover! 1…2….kick out.

Yuta with a dragonscrew. Cassidy comes back with a Michinoku drive. Cover! 1…2…kick out. He hits a DDT on Yuta. Claudio and Jon Moxley come out to ringside. Cassidy hits the paradigm shift on Yuta and follows it with a orange punch. Yuta rolls Cassidy up but can’t get the pinfall. Cassidy with a rollup of his own and gets the win.

Winner: Orange Cassidy (c)

Blackpool Combat Club ambush Cassidy. Best Friends’ music plays and they come out to help Cassidy. They brawl with the BCC but the numbers are too much. Lucha Bros. music plays and they come out and superkick Claudio. They send Yuta out of the ring. BCC grab a couple of chairs. Eddie Kingston’s music plays and he attacks Claudio. The Blackpool Combat Club retreat into the crowd.

Eddie gets on the mic and challenges Blackpool Combat Club to a stadium stampede match at All In.

Kenny Omega is interviewed by Jim Ross. Ross asks how he can consider doing business with Callis. Omega says Callis was always there for him as a kid. He says Callis gave him his first proteins as he was bringin home trophies. He says Callis’ guidance made him the best athlete.

Omega says you can’t choose your family and he is trying to justify what he has done. He says he and Takeshita go way back and he thought this is the right guy you want to back. He says he is going to take away Takeshita.

Don Callis comes in and says Omega has a lot of securities. Bullet Club Gold attack Omega from behind. They ramp him into the wall. Takeshita also joins the assault.

Hangman Page is backstage and he says if you’re going to do a beatdown, it has to be good. He also says if you’re going to start a beatdown, you better finish it. He says Omega will have his friends and tag partners at All In where they finish what Juice, Jay, and Takeshita started.

Don Callis is in the ring and he introduces Chris Jericho. Chris Jericho’s music plays and he walks out to the ring.

*Commercial break*

Callis says he was recently betrayed by Omega and he saw what the Jericho Appreciation to did to Jericho which was awful. Jericho says what happened last week broke his hurt. He says it made him realize that he should reevaluate who he is as a person. He says he doesn’t join factions, he creates them.

He says the answer is obvious and he says he wants to be part of the Don Callis Family. He says when the JAS walked out on him, it made him realize that he needs to get back to his roots and regain the AEW World Championship.

Callis says this is great and suggests they go drink roots and beat up some rednecks. Jericho asks what’s the picture that he has and he unveils it which shows him holding Jericho’s head.

Callis says it is a practical joke. Jericho asks whether he thought he was going to say no and asks if he was going to assassinate him. Callis says he paid a lot of money to have a painting and the artist screwed up. Jericho says he knows when Callis is lying and says he is lying to his face. He asks him to be straight with him for the first time in his life.

Callis admits that he did not think that Jericho would say yes to him because of his massive ego. He says it’s always about Jericho. He calls Jericho the greatest egomaniac who is too stupid to see what’s good for him and he doesn’t deserve to be part of the Don Callis Family.

Jericho asks who is Don Callis. He says Callis is at the top of his career because of him and nobody cares. He says Callis has lost everything because he has messed up every relationship he has had in his life. Callis slaps Jericho. Jericho shoves Callis in the corner. Takeshita enters the ring with a steel chjair but Jericho attacks him. Will Ospreay attacks Jericho and hits him with a steel chair.

Ospreay continues to attack him. They hold him up and Callis hits Jericho with the painting. Sammy Guevara comes down to the ring chases them away.

Darby Allin & Nick Wayne vs. Gates of Agony

Darby Allin’s music plays and he comes out with Nick Wayne. Gates of Agony attacks them from behind. Swerve Strickland’s music plays and he comes out with AR Fox.

The match starts and Kaun is sent out fo the ring. Wayne is sent into the barricade.

*Commercial break*

Wyane tags out and Allin dives onto Liona. He hits a crucifix bomb on Kaun. Kaun comes back with a backbreaker while Liona hits the elbow drop. Cover! 1…2…Wayne makes the save. Allin attacks Liona. Wayne with an hurricanrana to Liona off the apron. He then hits a cutter. Allin hits the coffin drop on Kaun for the win.

Winner: Darby Allin & Nick Wayne

Sting is on the titantron. He says he has something he wants to talk about. He says he is directing movies and he has a great leading man. He says Fox better have eyes on the back of his head because they have a coffin match at All In. He asks Prince Nana, who he has captured, to tell them. Nana says it is in 11 days. Sting says it is showtime and he chases him away.

MJF is outside a steakhouse. Adam Cole comes in and asks what are they doing here. MJF says to beat their opponents, they have to get inside the minds of them and that’s why they are at a outbacks. After eating, Cole and MJF as full. Cole says he knows how to prepare for Aussie Open.

He suggests they watch crocodile dundy. MJF shows him a video of kangaroos fighting. He then shows Cole how to do a kangaroo kick. Cole calls this his dumbest idea and says he has a better idea. They pretend to catch crocodiles. Cole suggest they hit the double clothesline and they do it. They get called to Tony Khan’s office to get yelled at.

MJF says Tony is going to regret that in 2024. Tony comes in and asks what he said and MJF says that he looks good. Tony then leaves and Cole walks away.

MJF and Cole arrive at the arena. Strong comes in and calls for Cole in frustration.

*Commercial break*

MJF and Adam Cole’s music plays and they walk to the ring. Cole says they are a week and a half away from All In. He says they are going to become the new ROH Tag Team Champions during Zero Hour. MJF says they are going to do it with the kangaroo kick. Cole says they are going to win the tag titles with a double clothesline.

He then says they will also be facing each other in the main event for the AEW World Championship. He says this is the most important match of his career because he was told by doctors that he may never wrestle again but now he is challenging for the AEW World Championsip and he is doing it with one of his best friends.

He says he has broken records with his championship runs and this match solidifies his legacy. He says he loves MJF but he needs to win this match and he says the second the bell rings, he will do anything and everything to win the world title.

MJF says he has a better story. He says when he first got into this sport, he was handed a sheet paper and he was asked to list his dream opponents. He wrote down Cody Rhodes and Adam Cole. He says he put 90,000 miles on his truck in 2018 because he worked hard to make it in this business.

He then says he was informed about a show called All In and he took his shot and dmed Cody Rhodes and asked for an opportunity. He says time went by and the show was getting close and he got a response from Cody who told him he was All In and he got to open the PPV he had no right being on. He says he was able to turn some heads after the match, he was offered a contract to AEW. He says if there was no All In, there’s no MJF.

He then says he scratched and crawled from the undercard to become a generational talent and one of the best in the world as he became AEW World Champion. He says he is looking at another opportunity to compete at All In against his dream opponent who has become his best friend. He says this means so much to him but it doesn’t mean everything to him.

He says the only thing that means everything to him is the AEW World Championship. He says the title symbolizes everything he has worked for. He says he won’t lay down just because they are friends. He says a win in Wembley will make him legendary. He says he will win because no one is on his level. Cole says may the best man win. MJF says the best man will win. Cole says the new AEW World Champion will be Adam Cole Baby.

Aussie Open emerge from the crowd and attack MJF and Cole. Cole and MJF fight back and stomp on Aussie Open. They go for the double clothesline on Davis but he escapes the ring and drags Fletcher out of the ring as well as they retreat. Cole teases turning on MJF but changes his mind and they hug it out.

Renee interviews Jericho who is in the doctor’s room. Jericho says if Ospreay wanted a match, he didn’t have to attack him. He challenges Ospreay to a match at All In. He says he is going to make him bleed and drink his blood. Jericho says he is going to get inside his head and beat him down in front of his family.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre Deathmatch: Jeff Jarrett vs. Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy’s theme song plays and he comes down to the ring. Hardy goes through the crowd and walks backstage. Jarrett attacks him to start the match. Karen also attacks Hardy.

Hardy attacks Jarrett with the crutch. Satnam Singh attacks Hardy. Ethan Page and Matt hardy attacks Satnam Singh. They pour syrup on Jarrett. Jarret and Karen try to retreat.

*Commercial break*

Jeff Hardy dives onto Jarrett. They fight out to the entrance stage. Hardy with a dropkick to Jarrett. He drags Jarrett down to the ring. Hardy hits Jarrett with a steel chair. Jarret enters the ring and Jarrett is beaten by all of them. Jeff Hardy hits the twist of fate. Haryd hits a Swanton bomb on Jarrett. Cover! 1…..2…..Jay Lethal makes the save. Ethan Page knocks down Lethall.

Sonjay Dutt hits him with a low blow. Matt hits Lethal with a twist of fate. Karen low blows Matt. Jarrett brings in the guitar but Jeff Hardy grabs it and hits him with the guitar. Leatherface comes down to the ring and chases Karen away. Satnam goes for a chokeslam but Hardy escapes and tries to hit the twist of fate but Lethal attacks him with an hammer. Satnam Singh chokeslams him and Jarrett pins him.

Winner: Jeff Jarrett

The Bunny vs. Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D.

Dr. Britt Baker’s music plays and she walks to the ring. The Bunny’s music plays and she comes out to the ring.

The match starts and they shake hands. They exchange blows. Bunny goes for the lockjaw early on in the match. Bunny kicks her and stomps her hand. Baker knocks down Bunny. Penelope distracts Baker and Bunny takes advantage.

*Commercial break*

Baker fights back against Bunny and knocks her down. She hits the slingblade. She hits the double underhook butterfly suplex. Baker with a swining neckbreaker. Cover! 1….2….kick out.

Penelope Ford distracts Baker and Bunny superkicks her but Baker comes back with a superkick. She stomps Bunny for the win.

Winner: Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D.

The Acclaimed vs. Local Talent

The Acclaimed’s theme song plays and they come out to the ring. The lights go out and come on with House of Black in the ring. They attack Caster and Bowens. Brody hits Caster with the steel chain. Buddy with a knee strike to Bowens. Matthews brings Caster in the ring and attacks him. Matthews stomps Caster in the ring. Julia Hart takes Billy Gunn’s boots.

Winner: No Contest

The Gunns vs. Young Bucks

The Gunns’s music plays and they stand on the entrance ramp. Young Bucks superkick them. Nick is sent into the barricade. Colten sends Nick into the ring. Matt tags in and attacks Colten. They hit the double suplex and a double dropkick.

The Young Bucks attack The Gunns in the corner and hit a dropkick. Nick dives onto The Gunns. Austin trips Matt and Colten takes advantage. Colten attacks Matt in the corner. Austin tags in and attacks Matt.

*Commercial break*

Colten with a dropkick to Matt. Cover! 1….2…kick out. Austin tags in. Matt fights back and tags out. Nick with a crossboddy. He attacks The Gunns. Nick superkicks Austin. He then kicks Colten on the otuside. He follows it with a facebuster/moonsault combo on The Gunns. Matt superkicks Austin and hits sliced break #2. They go for BTE trigger but Colten saves his brother. Colten tags in but Nick kicks him in the head. The Gunns double-team Matt. Cover! 1…..2….Nick makes the save.

Austin tags in and hits the famousser on Nick. Austin tries to rollup Matt but he reverses it and gets the pinfall.

Winner: Young Bucks

Bullet Club Gold ambush Young Bucks. Jay White brings in a steel chair and places a chair around Matt’s arm. FTR’s music plays. They attack The Gunns from behind and brawl with Bullet Club Gold. Dax hits Juice with a steel chair and they hit shatter machine. Bullet Club Gold retreats.

FTR tease attacking Young Bucks but change their minds.
