Bret Hart is a WWE Hall of Famer, and his in-ring skills earned him all the fame and recognition a pro wrestler would ever want. However, he truly changed after what transpired during The Montreal Screwjob. Even then, he is a believed and well-respected name. That said, it appears Vince McMahon almost cancelled a legendary match featuring Bret Hart at WrestleMania.
The Excellence of Execution has a career that spanned many years, which included five world title reigns, a Royal Rumble win, two King of the Ring victories, and two Intercontinental Championship reigns.
The WrestleMania X match between Bret Hart and Owen Hart in 1994 is regarded as one of the all-time greats, which saw Owen Hart defeat his brother after 20 minutes of pure technical brilliance.
While speaking on Minnesota Sports with Mackey & Judd, Natalya was asked about what match she would show someone as an introduction to WWE. Natalya answered Bret Hart vs Owen Hart at WrestleMania X and then revealed that Vince McMahon almost nixed the match.
“I always say to people, ‘If you want to get into this and you want to learn what this is about, watch Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart [at] WrestleMania X [in] Madison Square Garden,
[In the storyline] Owen was the little bratty brother and Bret was the big brother trying to, like, be noble and honorable — it was just an easy story to follow. But, it was this beautiful, beautiful match, and you could understand the story because a match is a story and a story is a match. That match was magical.I’m so happy that they got to do that because it was really such a highlight in Owen’s professional career, where Owen got the chance to shine.
I remember Bret really fighting for Owen to have that match,” Natalya revealed. “A lot of people don’t know that, but Bret, behind the scenes, fought very hard for Owen to be a part of that storyline … I think something different was suggested, and Bret said, ‘No, I want it to be Owen.’”
Bret Hart will forever be known for all of his accomplishments and contributions to the pro wrestling world and that is never changing. Needless to say, pro wrestlers will continue to learn from his match with Owen Hart at WrestleMania X as well.
