CM Punk has his eye on NJPW, and Will Ospreay has everyone’s attention. Ospreay recently changed up the company’s United States Title to a United Kingdom variant, and he even debuted a new design. He also has CM Punk’s attention with that stunt.
Following his defeat in the G1 Climax 33 semi-final, Will Ospreay made an unexpected change by introducing a custom IWGP United Kingdom Championship belt, replacing his previous United States Championship title. Ospreay’s move to unveil a personalized championship isn’t the only instance of a top-tier wrestler taking this route.
CM Punk recently revealed his own version of the ‘real’ AEW World Championship on a recent episode of Collision. He did so by holding onto the belt he never lost, and then he spray-painted an X on the title.
While taking to his Instagram story, CM Punk humorously responded to Will Ospreay’s NJPW belt modification. The Second City Savior posted a photo of Ospreay with his new title belt and a caption that took quite a shot, and it was also rather tongue-in-cheek.
“Bruv, very disrespectful to just change the belt like this. You cannot just do things like this, this isn’t a real belt now I hope Inoki fires you.”
CM Punk’s comment is obviously a nod to the scathing reception he received when he introduced the ‘real’ AEW World Championship on AEW Collision. As the excitement builds, Punk is gearing up to defend his legitimate AEW World Championship against Samoa Joe at AEW All In, set to take place at Wembley Stadium in the coming weekend.
Meanwhile, Will Ospreay appears to have his own challenges ahead, with a likely title defense against Yota Tsuji in the works. Additionally, rumors are circulating that Ospreay might face off against Chris Jericho at AEW All In, further adding to the anticipation surrounding these upcoming events.
Keep checking back with Ringside News for more on AEW All In London as things continue building for the big August 27th show in Wembley Stadium. Tony Khan’s company just broke 80k tickets sold, and that means they are only around 700 away from breaking WWE’s WrestleMania record in Texas.
