This Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown dove into the aftermath of SummerSlam, and fans were not disappointed if they stuck around the whole two-hour show. That being said, one match was planned to possibly be a No DQ contest, but that was switched around.
The episode encompassed notable matchups, including Asuka facing off against Charlotte Flair, United States Champion Austin Theory losing his title to Rey Mysterio, a showdown between AJ Styles and Karrion Kross, and a pivotal main event segment featuring Roman Reigns’ in that Hail to the Chief angle alongside Jimmy Uso. That same segment saw Jey Uso quit WWE.
AJ Styles beat Karrion Kross in a match that lasted just under ten minutes. This encounter marked the latest chapter in their rivalry, which saw Mia Yim helped out by stopping Scarlett at ringside and ultimately tossing her over the announce table.
According to reports from PW Insider, discussions were present within WWE about potentially incorporating a stipulation, possibly a No Disqualification rule, to the match. However, this concept was ultimately abandoned, leading to a conventional match that seemingly served as the culmination of their feud.
WWE might have wanted to put a No DQ stipulation on this match, but it didn’t go down. In the end, fans got what they saw this week on SmackDown, but how do you feel about it? Sound off in the comments to let us know what you think!
