Dakota Kai was released back in May 2022 but came back during SummerSlam that year, where she returned as part of Damage CTRL alongside Bayley and Iyo Sky. While she won championship gold afterwards, things just didn’t go well for Kai. Kai also suffered an unfortunate ACL injury, Kai managed to appear on Smackdown this week, which was a last minute decision.
As seen during the SummerSlam Premium Live Event, Iyo Sky cashed in her Money In The Bank briefcase on Bianca Belair and beat her to become the new WWE Women’s Champion. Dakota Kai also appeared after her win to celebrate.
Sky’s appearance was a very last-minute decision and she had to take a hectic journey to make it for the show. Sky also appeared on Smackdown this week, where she joined the Damage CTRL and cheered on as Sky and Bayley beat up Charlotte Flair and Asuka.
According to a report by PWInsider, Dakota Kai was called at the last minute to fly to Calgary for SmackDown after doing the same at SummerSlam.
Dakota Kai was not initially scheduled for Smackdown we are told. The story backstage making the rounds was that once again, she was called at the last minute to fly into the taping, just as she was Summerslam.
Dakota Kai is still a long way before making her in-ring return following her ACL surgery. We will have to wait and see when she will make her triumphant return to WWE television.
