The Acclaimed comprised of Anthony Bowens and Max Caster, slowly became one of the most popular tag teams in AEW. Bowens, in particular, has the kind of infectious energy that fans can’t get enough of. Now it appears Tony Khan intervened to sign Bowens after he agreed to join WWE.
As many people are aware by now, Anthony Bowens is a proud member of the LGBTQ community and has been very transparent about that fact since day one. He stands as a symbol of hope and admiration for anyone in the community.
Anthony Bowens officially signed with WWE back in November 2020 after making his in-ring debut on the October 6, 2020, episode of AEW Dark. While speaking on the Chrissy Chaos podcast, Anthony Bowens admitted he had agreed to join WWE before signing with AEW. He then revealed how Tony Khan intervened and convinced him to sign with AEW.
“We weren’t there for the very first couple of months, weren’t there for the ground floor, but we are the foundation of AEW and it could have been the other way around,” Bowens revealed. “I found myself in a position where I was lucky enough to be able to choose, whether I went to WWE or AEW. Actually, I said yes to WWE, and then Tony [Khan] found out and flew me down there.”
The Acclaimed have achieved a lot of success in AEW thanks to their organic growth over the years. Regardless, we will have to wait and see what’s next in store for the team as we approach AEW All In.
