The iconic “Macho Man” Randy Savage continues to make his presence felt even after his passing in 2011, as he remains a prominent figure in the promotion of Slim Jim snacks.
During the WWE SummerSlam 2023 Premium Live Event, a new commercial featuring Savage was unveiled, showcasing his enduring connection to the meaty treat. The commercial featured Savage holding a pack of Slim Jims and was followed by appearances from current WWE Superstars Bianca Belair and LA Knight.
Notably, LA Knight emerged as the victor of the Slim Jim-sponsored Battle Royal during the SummerSlam event, earning a resounding ovation from the audience in Detroit, Michigan. Knight had previously hinted at evolving plans for his role at the highly anticipated wrestling spectacle.
“Macho Man” Randy Savage had originally become associated with Slim Jim as its spokesperson from 1993 to 2000. He starred in a series of commercials for the snack, each concluding with his signature catchphrase, “Need a little excitement? Snap into a Slim Jim!” Interestingly, the commercial concept, catchphrase, and even the spokesperson role itself were initially offered to comedian Sam Kinison, who declined the opportunity. It was only after Kinison’s refusal that the idea of involving wrestlers came to the forefront.
Even after Savage’s departure from WWF (now WWE), his partnership with Slim Jim endured. According to Eric Bischoff, Savage’s lucrative contract with WCW was funded through the revenue generated by Savage’s association with Slim Jim.
Randy Savage is not the sole wrestler to have endorsed these beefy snacks. The first wrestler chosen for Slim Jim promotion was The Ultimate Warrior. In 1991, the former WWE World Champion filmed a TV spot and recorded several radio commercials for Slim Jim. Other wrestling luminaries like Bam Bam Bigelow, Kevin Nash, and Edge have also lent their personas to the promotion of this popular snack product.
