Santana and Ortiz made their debut in AEW back in 2019 and almost instantly became one of the mainstays of AEW’s tag team division. Unfortunately, the two are no longer on good terms whatsoever. That said, it appears some believe AEW dropped the ball on Santana and Ortiz.
Santana sustained a knee injury during an episode of Dynamite in June of last year, while performing a uranage on Daniel Garcia during the Blood and Guts match. This caused him to take time off to recover from the injury.
Last year, it was reported that Santana might be thinking about leaving AEW. Santana was tweeting cryptic countdowns such as “126 days” and “Soon.” This led to fans believing he was done with AEW for good.
The two have yet to make their AEW television return. While speaking the Great North Wrestling podcast, Hernandez stated that he believes AEW dropped the ball on Santana and Ortiz.
“I honestly think and this is my opinion, Santana and Ortiz are amazing wrestlers, they were not ready to not have Konnan next to them, because he knows — Konnan with the verbiage, it can make anyone unstoppable. He made them believable to go against me and Homicide and Eddie Kingston.
If I was AEW, I would’ve brought Konnan with them. There’s no way, without a shadow of a doubt — it’s foolproof. He did it for me and Homicide, he did it for Ortiz and Santana, he can do it for anyone. It’s virtually foolproof to have him bring Latino stars and him spout his verbiage and elicit crowd responses. Yays or boos, whatever you need him to do and make money. That’s where AEW dropped the ball. Not bringing Konnan with them.”
Santana and Ortiz are also seemingly back together in AEW. We will have to wait and see when the two will return to AEW television together, as fans want them to win the AEW World Tag Team Championships.
