Cody Rhodes was immediately booked as a major star after returning to WWE at WrestleMania 38 and in just a span of one year, he went on to main event WrestleMania 39 this year. However, he didn’t accomplish what fans wanted and now it appears Triple H hit back at those who criticized Rhodes’ booking at WrestleMania 39.
The American Nightmare challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 39 Sunday. Fans all over the world believed Rhodes would finally end Roman Reigns’ run as the champion.
However, that was not the case as Roman Reigns won the match after several interferences from The Bloodline. Cody Rhodes’ loss angered many fans and pro wrestlers alike.
During the SummerSlam Premium Live Event, Cody Rhodes squared off against Brock Lesnar in a solid match. Rhodes would win the match and Lesnar pulled him in for a hug and showed him a lot of respect.
During the press conference after SummerSlam, Triple H addressed those who criticized Cody Rhodes’ booking at WrestleMania 39 and explained just how much better Rhodes is now.
“Name the amount of people that Brock Lesnar has gotten up after going through a match like that, shook their hand, and pulled them in to hug them before walking out. I know Brock, I work with him all the time. That was a whole ass for me. So when Cody realizes what happened, it’s a moment. And if that doesn’t tell you where Cody is at, where this journey has taken him, where this journey has taken him from what many people questioned at WrestleMania to where he is right now, like that rise just continues to be phenomenal. He delivers at all turns. So it’s awesome.”
We will have to wait and see what WWE has planned for Cody Rhodes, now that he has toppled The Beast Incarnate. After all, WWE is clearly seeing great things in The American Nightmare.
