Austin Theory is steadily building his reputation as one of WWE’s up-and-coming talents, showcasing his skills on television each week. The United States Champion worked hard to become one of the more reliable Superstars in the company right now. Now it appears Triple H explained why Theory didn’t have a title match at WWE SummerSlam.

The United States Champion beat John Cena at WrestleMania 39 earlier this year and this ended up shocking fans as they believed there was no way Theory was going to win. Of course, Theory carried forward with the momentum since then.

Ever since Austin Theory was called up to the main roster, Vince McMahon had plans to position him as a top star. After Triple H took over as head of Creative, it has been evident that those plans remain unchanged.

That said, lately Austin Theory hasn’t been booked as a strong champion. He was part of the Slim Jim Battle Royal at SummerSlam but not his own match. While speaking during the post-WWE SummerSlam press conference, Triple H explained why Theory didn’t have a title match at WWE SummerSlam.

I think I covered that under the longer event section of the process. When you creatively have enough talent and enough storylines that you could do two full days of WrestleMania, when you pull back to one show time-wise, it’s very clearly no matter what show it is, you cannot put everyone on that show. I try to have that conversation with talent all the time, obviously, if you are talent when the bigger PLEs come around or what is perceived as the bigger PLEs, that’s the show you wanna be on, but not everyone can be on that PLE because when tonight’s show, which is now over, four weeks from now, we’re gonna be at Backlash, five weeks after that we’re gonna be at Fastlane.

There’s always another big event that you have to have stuff ready to go on. You have things in your pocket, you have them ready to go and then you see what is positioned best, what’s the biggest thing you have for this, the other things you move over along that same, you know, creative point of view at the same time you have 5 hours of live TV every week that you gotta fit in as well, 7 if you count NXT. so, the amount of content that you’re constantly churning and generating based off the PLEs, you have to make strategic decisions. Sometimes those decisions aren’t going to make everybody happy, sometimes people are going to have to take the lemons and make lemonade. It’s just what it is.

We will have to wait and see whether Austin Theory will get better booking in the future. By the looks of it, fans might see someone else become the United States Champion within the coming weeks.
