Triple H became the head of WWE Creative after Vince Mahon’s retirement last year and he has managed to make a lot of meaningful changes for the promotion. Now it appears Triple H defended this decision to cut women’s matches in WWE.
WWE’s SummerSlam event took place at Detroit’s Ford Field tonight, but Becky Lynch vs Trish Stratus was not featured on the card. As Ringside News exclusively reported, WWE is making a ton of money in the Slim Jim Battle Royal match, which is why the match got cut.
It was previously noted that there are some unhappy people backstage in WWE over the treatment of the women’s division. While speaking during the past SummerSlam press conference, Triple H addressed the criticism of how WWE excluded certain women’s matches.
Triple H simply explained how WWE looks at women and the men on the same level and women have main evented shows because they deserved to and not because of a publicity stunt.
My take on that is the same as it’s always been, I don’t see the difference. I see the women in WWE like I look at the men in WWE. They’re talent and it’s irrelevant to me if they’re male or female. I put the same amount of thought and process and are just looking for the things that are delivering in the moment. When women main event WrestleMania, they were the main event of WrestleMania. We didn’t make them anything. If they were the main event, it’s because they’re the main event. Not because ”Hey that’s pretty good you guys are women, I think I’ll get better press if I put you in the main event, that’s cool right?” No, it’s not. It’s whoever is the most deserving, there’s always going to be criticism of what we do.
My only thing is, one has patience, there’s always another thing around the corner. There was a lot of banter this week about matches being cut. Nothing was cut, there was no card announced, right? If we don’t have more things in the pocket that can fit in the PLE, I’ve done a terrible job. Because there’s always an injury waiting around the corner, there’s always a moment that changes everything. If one creative thing changes, it changes the trajectory. of everything. If you don’t have more stuff than you need ready to go, you fail.
The show was plenty long tonight, if it was anything longer that would have been bad. So, there comes a time when we say, does everything get shorter time, does everything get rushed does everything get hairy, or do we move things around and shift it and give it a bigger spotlight? As a performer for me, I’d rather have the bigger spotlight, that’s how I look at it.
WWE also announced that Becky Lynch will square off against Trish Stratus in two weeks on Monday Night RAW. Regardless, we’ll have to see when the match will take place.
