AEW is not losing The Elite, as they made the big announcement this week that they are staying with the company. That being said, the decision was made a few weeks ago, but they held off for the right time to let people know.
The Elite, consisting of Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, and Adam Page, have recently inked new multi-year contracts with AEW. Interestingly, they were also exploring the possibility of joining WWE as an option.
As reported earlier, all three members of The Elite, Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, and Adam Page, recommitted to AEW. Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks will retain their roles as AEW Executive Vice Presidents. The money amount for those deals was not disclosed, but it is rumored that their deals are four-year contracts.
In a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer disclosed that Tony Khan had instructed The Elite not to disclose their contract extensions beforehand. Instead, the plan was to unveil this significant news on the day of Dynamite’s 200th episode, creating a momentous surprise for the fans.
“They actually made the deal, I would guess it was a couple of weeks ago, I don’t know the date, but I do know the deal was already made and he told them to keep quiet on it because he wanted to announce it on August 2 in conjunction with the 200th episode.”
WWE will not get The Elite, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t have interest. We are still waiting on specifics on this story, but it’s also likely that neither side will reveal much on what could have been.
Interestingly enough, The Elite aren’t the only stars who inked new AEW deals. We will have to see what is in their future, but they will be All Elite for years to come.
