Mustafa Ali had a lot of potential after his main roster debut in 2019. Unfortunately, he was mostly wasted on the main roster due to being stuck in uninteresting storylines. His current booking in WWE has also ensured he has a lot of detractors. It appears Ali believes WWE should have booked him to beat Gunther at Night Of Champions.

Since his debut, Ali has impressed fans and WWE management, so much so that he was due for a big push a few years ago, which got derailed due to injury. When Ali returned, he was made the leader of Retribution, which nearly destroyed his reputation.

Mustafa Ali challenged Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship at the Night Of Champions Premium Live Event. Despite his best efforts, Ali was not able to beat The Ring General.

While speaking to WWE Die Woche, Mustafa Ali talked about his match against Gunther at Night of Champions. Ali stated that he believes WWE should have booked him to beat Gunther at Night Of Champions.

I’m very disappointed in the result (losing to GUNTHER at WWE Night of Champions). Obviously, I thought if there was ever a time to defeat GUNTHER, it would have been there. A guy with ‘home field advantage’ so to speak and I think it’s been a long time since WWE’s done that ultimate underdog story. I still have the image of 1-2-3 Kid defeating Razor Ramon on Raw and just the impact that had. I don’t think it would’ve hurt GUNTHER at all. I think it would have really helped me. But you know, unfortunately, I fell short. There’s a reason why GUNTHER is the Ring General. I did have him. There was like two-and-a-three-quarter-seconds, the whole world believed for a second it was gonna happen. But we live to fight another day my friend.

Following his loss to Gunther at WWE Night of Champions, Mustafa Ali made his way to NXT, where he remains a major focus on NXT television. We’ll have to see what’s next in store for him.
