WWE Discussed Moving SummerSlam Match To Payback

WWE brought the go-home episode of RAW before SummerSlam this week, and they had a lot of things on the table for tonight’s show. That being said, they also had a little bit to tweak for biggest party of the summer’s card.

Brock Lesnar and Cody Rhodes have been going at it for months, and we still don’t know why. Lesnar just decided to turn on Rhodes, ending his babyface run in the process. That jump-started a trilogy of matches, and fans got their final dose of that feud on RAW before the SummerSlam event.

Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar were reportedly going to do battle with a special stipulation attached for their third match. Previously in the night an MMA Rules stipulation was added to the Ronda Rousey vs Shayna Baszler match.

This week’s episode of WWE RAW also saw Trish Stratus and Becky Lynch have their match early. Trish’s ally, Zoey Stark, didn’t let that match get very far at all. After Stark jumped in the match, the referee called for the bell.

Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall, that WWE had discussed taking that match and moving it to Payback.

WWE Raw saw a big development for a match that was planned for WWE Summerslam.

Fightful Select learned Monday night that the Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus match that was originally planned for Summerslam was delayed. 

We’re told that things changed by this weekend regarding Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus, and that the match was discussed to be moved back to WWE Payback, before it was announced for August 14.  The promo and match in totality was scheduled for only one segment on WWE Raw. 

Becky Lynch wasn’t originally scheduled to take time off around Summerslam, despite that being rumored online. 

We will have to see what WWE does next in this situation. A lot of things are possible but we won’t know what’s going to happen until it plays out o television at this prate.
