Dominik Mysterio’s character growth is nothing short of remarkable, as he wasn’t taken seriously as a babyface. His fortune changed after he turned to the dark side and is now one of the biggest heels in Vince McMahon’s company. Now it appears he is glad he skipped WWE developmental.
Dominik Mysterio challenged Wes Lee for the NXT North American Championship. Mysterio would win the match with help from The Judgment Day. Thus, Dominik Mysterio became the new NXT North American Champion.
Three years on, Dominik Mysterio has become one of the most hated heels in WWE right now. That said, some believe that Dominik Mysterio should have started his WWE career in NXT first.
While speaking during an interview with Metro, Dominik Mysterio stated that Mysterio feels he is blessed he didn’t have to go to WWE developmental and went straight to the main roster.
I think there’s definitely pros and cons to it, depending on how you look at it. I was blessed and very fortunate to be in the position that I’m in. I think just the way that I came about it, and the people that I was surrounded with, I just don’t think it made sense [to go to NXT], especially with who I was gonna learn from.
You can’t get any better than that. As far as guys that I could be next to. I’m literally next to some of the best – if not the best, the current best. ‘Coming in with my first match against Seth, and then carrying on to work with Baron Corbin and Sami Zayn during the pandemic, to where once the pandemic was over I started working with John Cena, Roman Reigns, The Usos and Edge!”
Dominik Mysterio successfully retained his NXT North American Championship at NXT Great American Bash last night. We’ll have to wait and see what’s next in store for him.
