Cody Rhodes Says AEW Departure Was Due To A ‘Personal Issue’

Cody Rhodes is certainly one of the most beloved stars in WWE right now. Cody’s stock continues to increase with every passing week, and that’s not going to change anytime soon. He was a major star in AEW but it appears that he parted ways with AEW due to a personal issue.

Cody Rhodes suddenly departed AEW in February last year, leaving fans in shock. Before his exit, Rhodes was a standout performer in AEW, helping put over numerous talent with his solid performances in the ring.

Cody Rhodes was frequently booed in AEW toward the very end of his run with the company. All fans wanted was for him to turn heel in the company, but that never ended up happening.

“American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes” has officially premiered on Peacock and the documentary gave a lot of details on Rhodes’ life. Rhodes revealed that he parted ways with AEW due to a personal issue.

This is my one request in this entire documentary. This one answer, I don’t want edited in any capacity. Don’t edit this part. I can’t tell you why I left AEW. I can’t, and I won’t, but I’ll tell you the reasons that were said that didn’t actually matter. I didn’t leave AEW because of money and I didn’t leave AEW because of other talents. I left AEW because of a personal issue. That’s it. The byproduct of leaving AEW is the opportunity to go for the biggest dream I ever had and the first dream I had in my life.”

The American Nightmare also believes he should not have let certain AEW wrestlers beat him. Regardless, he is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in WWE right now and no one can deny that.
