WWE has a huge show ready for Detroit’s Ford Field on August 5th. SummerSlam will be quite a showcase, and the biggest party of the summer as well, but they won’t have every top Superstar on the card.
Kevin Owens took part in an injury angle on RAW this week. He sold an injury that he has actually been working through at this point. That being said, this week finally came to a point when he had to be written off television.
At this point, it is unclear how long Kevin Owens will be out of action. All we know is that it is rumored to be a rib injury, and now we know his SummerSlam status.
Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter confirmed that the “tag titles won’t be on the show with Kevin Owens getting time off due to his broken rib”. That injury will take Kevin Owens out of SummerSlam.
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are still WWE Undisputed Tag Team Champions, and they’ve held those titles since WrestleMania 39’s first night. Only time will tell how much longer they have in them, but the belts won’t be up for grabs at SummerSlam.
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are still big time players in WWE, so it’s anyone’s guess if they will still be around for a SummerSlam angle. All we know at this juncture is that the Prizefighter is not booked to wrestle at the biggest party of the summer.
