Gable Steveson’s insane performance at the Tokyo Olympics back in 2021 made him a household name. Because of this, he eventually signed with WWE he finally got some use during NXT earlier this month. While Steveson is set to compete in his debut match soon, it appears he is still passionate about amateur wrestling.

After a lot of teases and speculation, WWE managed to sign Gable Steveson to contract a couple of years ago. He was already drafted to Monday Night RAW as part of the WWE Draft. He also got physical during WrestleMania 38 Night 2 but didn’t do all that much after that.

That changed after he started appearing on NXT television, where he hit few German Suplexes. It was then confirmed that Gable Steveson will be squaring off against Baron Corbin at the Great American Bash, in what will be his first-ever WWE match.

While speaking to Star Tribune ahead of his NXT debut, Gable Steveson made it clear he is still passionate about amateur wrestling and still has one year of college eligibility.

“Amateur wrestling is my passion, and my fire still burns for it … I still have the year of [college] eligibility, and always will be ready to compete for USA.”

We will have to wait and see how Gable Steveson will perform in his in-ring debut. Should he win, perhaps fans might warm up to him sooner than expected.
