WWE has some competition all over the entertainment landscape, as anything that can take up room on a screen can also take viewers away from pro wrestling. That being said, WWE isn’t worried at all about a new upcoming name on the pro wrestling block.
Freddie Prinze Jr has been critical of WWE in the past, even saying that NXT was “unwatchable garbage,” and he’s not done in the pro wrestling world by a long shot. In fact, he is starting up his own pro wrestling company.
The former WWE writer also recently spoke about his upcoming promotion, where he promised deathmatch wrestling will be a part of his recipe. This is an ultra-violent form of pro wrestling that has its niche fans, but they are quite a vocal minority within the landscape.
“I guarantee you it wouldn’t even be up for debate if you brought it up as a writer in the creative room, they wouldn’t even let you bring it to Vince. They’re too scared of that with stockholders. You can blame them for it or you can understand that that’s just the way it is for it to be as successful as its become.”
Whenever a new pro wrestling company opens their doors, WWE is going to find out about it. Unlike AEW, or even MLW, it doesn’t seem that Freddie Prinze’s new venture has anyone concerned whatsoever.
A tenured member of the WWE creative team confirmed to Ringside News that “no one give a f*ck” about Freddie Prinze Jr’s new pro wrestling promotion within WWE. This is not something that anyone has ever brought up in a production, creative, or other internal meeting.
We were also told that there is doubt anyone in the locker room is discussing this new company from Freddie Prinze Jr either. This new company is not looked at as any real competition by any stretch of the imagination.
Freddie Prinze Jr. served as a writer for WWE from 2008 to 2009. During his time with the company, he worked closely with creative teams to develop storylines and character arcs for WWE Superstars. During his time with WWE, he also led in promo classes with talent. He still loves discussing the product to this day on his Wrestling With Freddie podcast.
We will have to see who Freddie Prinze Jr books for his new pro wrestling company. There are a few free agents out there who might come in for a television shoot, but it’s anyone’s guess how the Scooby-Doo actor’s new company will be distributed via streaming or other television deals.
