Baron Corbin has been an integral part of WWE for a decade, seizing every opportunity that came his way. Over the years, he has undergone numerous transformations and mastered the art of portraying a villain, ultimately flourishing as a solid heel. He is now back in NXT and it appears Shawn Michaels has given him creative freedom in NXT.
Baron Corbin was also a free agent after the WWE Draft and fans wondered what would become of him. Corbin then made his shocking return to NXT in May and immediately ambushed Carmelo Hayes.
It culminated in a match for the NXT Championship last month against Carmelo Hayes, where Corbin brought back his Lone Wolf gimmick. While speaking on the “After The Bell” podcast, Baron Corbin claimed that Shawn Michaels has given him the creative freedom to do what he wants to in NXT.
“I saw that [NXT] as a place where I could make some changes in myself and my career and that was the plan going in, and I think it’s been a successful execution of that plan.
He [Michaels] is letting me do me in a sense, and then sculpting what I bring to him versus handing me, ‘Hey, this is what we’re doing, this is where you’re going, this is who we want you to be,'” Corbin explained. “He’s going, ‘Hey, man, you’ve been around the block. What do you want to do? Where do you want to take this? What can we do for you, in a sense of, creative outlet and opportunities.’ He’s let me kind of take the ball and run with it.”
Baron Corbin is set to square off against Gable Steveson at the Great American Bash Premium Live Event on July 30th. We’ll have to wait and see whe6hrt he will be able to defeat Steveson.
