Shawn Michaels is undoubtedly one of the best in-ring performers to have ever stepped foot inside a WWE ring. He was touted as Mr. WrestleMania, and he truly lived up to the moniker. For the most part, he has remained retired from in-ring competition. That being said, he has no intention of wrestling ever again.
Shawn Michaels’ last official wrestling match dates back to November 2018, where he made a special appearance at WWE Crown Jewel. In that event, Michaels teamed up with Triple H to face The Undertaker and Kane, in what was meant to be an exciting tag-team match. That match is one that most have chosen to forget.
It’s worth noting that Shawn Michaels announced his retirement after his second legendary match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26, where he had put on a spectacular performance that cemented his status as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Since then, many WWE stars have reportedly tried to convince Michaels to come out of retirement and perform again.
While speaking to Wrestle Binge, Michaels confirmed that he has no intention of ever wrestling again.
No, I absolutely don’t think about that at all anymore. I’m so enamored and enjoy helping these young men and women come through NXT. I’ve had my time in the sun. I absolutely enjoyed every bit of it, but I so thoroughly enjoy being able to help them and allow them to have the same opportunities that I had.
This is about the generation of a Bron Breakker, Julius and Brutus Creed, Tiffany Stratton – we have a number of young men and women coming through ‘NXT’ who are going to be huge, huge superstars on the main roster. I don’t think anyone is going to be surprised if they see Bron Breakker and Carmelo Hayes headlining a WrestleMania someday in the very near future … that’s what I’m obviously focused on.”
Regardless, Michaels is retired now and is focused on making NXT a great brand, and many young Superstars of tomorrow benefit from his teaching every day.
