NXT Superstar Nearly Misses Breaking Impressive Record

WWE is all about raking up statistics, and it seems that they are no stranger to touting the fact that someone has a new record under their belt. Now, it appears that one NXT Superstar barely missed breaking their own record.

Former NXT North American Champion Wes Lee was on the brink of breaking a significant WWE record before his title loss on Tuesday’s NXT episode. During the July 18 show, Wes Lee valiantly defended his championship against WWE Raw star Dominik Mysterio.

However, Mysterio secured the victory with the assistance of his Judgment Day faction mates, resulting in a shocking title change. The loss was particularly surprising as Wes Lee was set to defend his gold against Mustafa Ali at NXT The Great American Bash.

Wrestling Stats & Info highlighted on Twitter that Wes Lee was mere days away from becoming the longest-reigning North American Champion in WWE history. Considering his combined reigns. In his single reign with the title, Lee held it for an impressive 269 days, making it the longest single reign in the championship’s history.

Former #WWENXT North American Champion @WesLee_WWE was less than a week away from holding the title for more combined days than any other Superstar. He’ll have to hope for a second reign if he wants to break that record.

Presently, Carmelo Hayes holds the record for the most combined reigns, having held the title for 273 days across two reigns. Both Hayes and Lee have outperformed several notable names, including main roster stars Johnny Gargano and Damian Priest, as well as AEW personalities Keith Lee, Adam Cole, and Swerve Strickland. Wes Lee’s impressive championship run has solidified his place among the prestigious titleholders in NXT history.

We will have to see what’s next for Wes Lee. He had an incredible run as North American Champion. Sadly, it had to come to an end, and now Dominik Mysterio has another thing to help him drive heat.
