Brian Pillman Jr. had worked hard to establish himself as one of the mainstays of AEW’s tag team division alongside Griff Garrison. The Varsity Blondes eventually split up and went their separate ways. As it turned out, Pillman Jr. recently parted ways with AEW after his contract expired. That said, it appears Tony Khan was criticized for not releasing him sooner.

We previously reported that Brian Pillman Jr. was removed from the AEW roster page. Naturally, this made many fans fear the worst as they believed he was gone from the company.

That is exactly what happened as Brian Pillman Jr. contract with AEW expired earlier this week.  Naturally, fans wondered what would become of the former AEW star as he is talented in many ways.

During the latest episode of Jim Cornette’s Drive-Thru podcast, Jim Cornette criticized Tony Khan for not releasing Brian Pillman Jr. sooner as he was not learning anything in AEW.

“It’s about time and I wish they’d done it sooner. Because it’s been obvious for, what, how long, that they weren’t going to do anything with him [Brian Pillman Jr]. He was not going to be featured on any of the television programs. We don’t what they did on YouTube. But we’ve also heard that the YouTube matches were just, you know, just rapid-fire matches. Just, you know, three minutes with green guys against green guys. […] He wasn’t learning anything.

They had a period of time, there was a window there. […] He had sympathy, remember? He had people kind of behind him. You saw him a few times on TV and he didn’t do anything – he wasn’t allowed to do anything remarkable or memorable. And then you didn’t see him anymore and that window closed.

Brian Pillman Jr. was also recently spotted at the WWE Performance Center. We will have to wait and see whether Brian Pillman Jr. will end up joining WWE, as it might just be what he needs, after an uninspired run in Tony Khan’s company for the last three years.

What’s your view on what Jim Cornette said? Do you think Brian Pillman Jr. will find success elsewhere after his AEW departure? Let us know in the comments!
