FTR defended their AEW World Tag Team Titles against Bullet Club Gold on AEW Collision, and it was a match worth watching back. After teasing a time-limit decision, FTR won, and it was quite a show in Calgary. That match, with old-school tag team wrestling vibes throughout in a classic pro wrestling setting, was also mostly called on the fly.

Last week’s AEW Collision delivered an extraordinary match that will leave a lasting impression, and is already being lauded as one of the greatest tag team matches of all time. FTR put their AEW Tag Team Titles on the line against the duo of Jay White and Juice Robinson. In the end, Bullet Club Gold gave it their all in a classic that lasted nearly an hour.

The 2 out of 3 falls match kicked off the show and lasted nearly an hour, captivating the audience throughout. Ultimately, FTR won by forcing Juice Robinson to submit to the sharpshooter. However, what happened after the match added another layer of intensity as FTR extended their hands for a gesture of sportsmanship, only to be met with disdain from the heels, who spat on them before making their exit.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that much of the match was improvised on the spot, with minimal pre-planned sequences. This speaks volumes about the talent and adaptability of the performers involved, showcasing their ability to deliver a remarkable and engaging match without relying heavily on a predetermined script.

“An interesting aspect of this match is that they did not work a lot out before the match. I mean, I’m not saying it’s all called in the ring, but there were things that happened. Juice got there at two [in the afternoon]. The match started at six [at night]. I know that there was a thing of let’s, you know, they started the Collision with the match, six o’clock, whatever it is. Calgary time, I think it was.”

“Whatever it was, they started the match. Well, six was mountain time. They started the match and there was, you know, at the start of the show there was definitely talk. I know that they wanted to get a little bit of time to work it out and start the match later. But I think that because of the nature of it being a two-hour show and you have to do this hour match, they just wanted to start it with it. Really impressive. It would’ve been impressive if they worked the whole match out. It still would’ve been. It was super impressive. But, that was another aspect of the story.”

AEW has a stellar tag team division, and they continue making big waves, even to this day. Now, it appears that we are going to see FTR continue their journey as AEW World Tag Team Champions. Only time will tell how far everything goes, or if they circle back around to Bullet Club gold eventually.

Bullet Club Gold have certainly established themselves in AEW, as Jay White and Juice Robinson entered the scene seamlessly from NJPW. AEW Collision last week was just another big notch in their belts.
