WWE is set to put out a big show for SummerSlam, and a ton of big matches are planned for the card on August 5th in Detroit. That being said, only one match can close out the show.

With less than a month remaining until WWE’s annual SummerSlam event, the match lineup is still being finalized. Fans should see a few matches added to the event very soon.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the planned World Heavyweight Championship match is Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor. Balor’s recent pinfall victories over Sami Zayn and Carmelo Hayes on WWE television serve to build up the story between him and Rollins, following their encounter at WWE Money in the Bank. Additionally, Damian Priest, the current holder of the Money in the Bank contract, is also involved in the evolving narrative.

The scheduled main event for SummerSlam is Jey Uso challenging Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. This match is expected to be officially announced, possibly during tonight’s WWE SmackDown in Raleigh. The Bloodline storyline, which dominated a significant portion of the July 7 episode of SmackDown at Madison Square Garden and garnered impressive ratings, is driving this match.

Right now the main event is Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso for the Universal title, which was strongly teased this past week and could be announced as soon as 7/14.

The rest of the matches are yet to be officially confirmed, including several contests that have been previously reported. Those matches include Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar, Raquel Rodriguez vs. WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair vs. Bianca Belair vs. WWE Women’s Champion Asuka, Drew McIntyre vs. Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER, Trish Stratus vs. Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey vs. Shayna Baszler, and Logan Paul vs. Ricochet. If all these matches come to fruition, the total number of matches on the card would be nine.

As of this writing, 43,712 tickets have already been sold for the August 5 event at Ford Field in Detroit. If the trend continues, it could potentially become WWE’s highest-grossing non-WrestleMania event in North America, surpassing the $7.3 million revenue generated by this year’s Royal Rumble.
