AEW brought CM Punk back to television, and he has carried around a bag, claiming to be champion. The Second City Savior is set for a huge match on Collision, and a lot could be at stake.
Ricky Starks and CM Punk will battle on AEW Collision for the 2023 Owen Hart Tournament. The winner of that tournament could go on to do even bigger things in the company.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that AEW has a very important decision ahead of them. After all, their plans for the World Title could depend on the Owen Hart Tournament going one way or the other.
On the men’s side it all depends on the long-term. If Punk is going to win the AEW title soon, having Starks beat him to set up Punk vs. Starks as a match title mach and elevate Starks makes sense.
If Punk is not winning the title, it makes no sense to beat him before his title challenge (that has to happen) and Punk winning the Owen Hart Cup elevates the Cup for the future and helps Punk in a lot of ways. Starks could use that win to elevate him of course, but not if the short-term is Punk challenging for the title, and to me that has to be the plan within the next few months.
AEW has some big booking decisions coming up, especially when it comes to the Owen Hart Tournament. CM Punk and Ricky Starks are likely to tear the house down on Collision. Only time will tell who pulls down the trophy this year.
Fans will eagerly wait for this week’s episode of AEW Collision to see who wins between CM Punk and Ricky Starks. The future of the company’s biggest title could be up in the air, after all.
