Shawn Michaels Requested WWE Management Several Times To Bring Mustafa Ali To NXT

Mustafa Ali had a lot of potential after his main roster debut in 2019. Unfortunately, he was mostly wasted on the main roster due to being stuck in uninteresting storylines. His current booking in WWE has also ensured he has a lot of detractors. Now it appears Shawn Michaels worked very hard to bring Ali to NXT.

Since his debut, Ali has impressed fans and WWE management, so much so that he was due for a big push a few years ago, which got derailed due to injury. When Ali returned, he was made the leader of Retribution, which nearly destroyed his reputation

Following his loss to Gunther at WWE Night of Champions, Mustafa Ali made his way to NXT. He has been a staple of NXT television since his arrival and fans are happy for him as well.

While speaking on the Sports Guys Talk Wrestling show, WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels revealed that he contacted WWE mangement and requested them several times in order to bring Mustafa Ali to NXT.

“Wes Lee, to me, has just been unbelievable as North American champion. On a personal level, I just enjoy that young man so much. But everything that he’s kind of overcome here in NXT over the last year and a half has just been phenomenal. He’s been a great champion for us.”

“When we had the opportunity to get Mustafa Ali, I’ve always been a big fan of his. It’s something that from a very quiet standpoint, I would see him here and there on the main roster and every once in a while, I would just reach out and ask like, ‘Gosh, if he’s not doing anything, if you guys aren’t doing something with him, I’d love to have him down here.’ It never quite worked out for us until just as of late, and I’m telling you what. He’s a guy that I in my opinion, we’ve just seen the tip of the iceberg with him and we plan on cutting him loose and unleashing him here in NXT to really work and live out his potential here on the NXT brand as we go into the future.”

Mustafa Ali will be challenging Wes Lee for the NXT North American Championship at the Great American Bash event on July 30th. We’ll have to see who woll coem out on top in the match.
