Since its transformation into a developmental brand in 2012, WWE NXT has served as a stepping stone for most Superstars on their path to the main roster. However, there have been exceptions to this norm, and one notable example is Dominik Mysterio.
Despite some critics suggesting that Dominik should have started his wrestling journey in NXT, WWE Hall of Famer Booker T believes that the company made the right decision by launching him directly on the main roster.
During a recent episode of “The Hall of Fame” podcast, Booker T expressed his belief that Dominik possesses a unique blend of his father Rey Mysterio’s qualities while also having his own distinct attributes. Booker emphasized Dominik’s athleticism, timing, grace, and flawless execution, stating that he excels in every aspect of the game.
Reflecting on Dominik’s comments about the original plan to start him in NXT, Booker argued that it would have been a mistake and that WWE has a genuine star in Dominik who can be a valuable asset for the company for the next 15 years.
“[Dominik’s] not like Rey Mysterio (his father), but he’s like Rey Mysterio at the same time, if you understand what I mean. He’s so much taller, but his athleticism, his timing, the grace, the flawlessness, he does everything. He does everything good. I was listening to him talk and he was saying that the original plan was to start him out in the ‘NXT’ program and I think that would have been a mistake. I really do. I think they’ve slipped on a banana peel and they got a bona fide star that they’re going to be able to work with for the next 15 years.”
Dominik made his main roster debut in 2020 as part of an ongoing feud between his father Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins. His first in-ring match took place at SummerSlam, where he faced Rollins in a Street Fight. Although he was unsuccessful in that match, Dominik continued to gain experience and accolades, including a reign as WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champion alongside his father.
However, Dominik’s journey took an unexpected turn when he eventually turned on his father and joined the Judgment Day faction. Under the new persona of “Dirty Dom,” he now continues to carve his own path and make a name for himself within the WWE landscape.
