Jeff Hardy has had a long and successful career in pro wrestling, but he has also struggled with personal demons that have caused him a lot of pain. His struggles with substance abuse have been well-documented, and he has had multiple stints in rehab throughout his career. It appears his last DUI ended up costing The Hardys a title run in AEW.
After a performance at Busters venue in Florida last year, Jeff Hardy faced criticism following his apprehension for driving while intoxicated. Regrettably, this was not a one-time occurrence, as it marked his third DUI arrest in the course of a decade.
Following his arrest in June, Jeff was suspended from AEW without pay until he finished substance abuse treatment. Hardy came back in April this year but the damage was done.
While speaking to Daily Mail Online, Matt Hardy discussed the original plans for him and Jeff leading into the summer of 2022. It would have seen them become the AEW Tag Team Champions before plans got scrapped due to Jeff Hardy’s DUI arrest.
It was very tricky, because I feel like we were right on that point where I think the Hardys were going to have a run with the AEW Tag Titles, and we had some stuff planned out for the next few months, and then, once Jeff’s incident happened, then everything was up in the air, you know, and I was just kind of like in limbo.
Jeff Hardy was written off AEW television last month at the hands of Juice Robinson. It happened shortly after The Hardy Boyz lost a match to Austin & Colten Gunn on the June 21 episode of AEW Dynamite. We’ll have to wait and see when he will be back AEW television.
