WWE has been the most successful it has ever been in the last year, as the company continues to see record profit each and every month for their events as well as weekly shows. Now it appears WWE made major changes to Smackdown’s rating measurement.
Last week’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown smashed recent WWE TV records for viewership and the 18-49 demographic rating in numerous ways, especially due to the venue being Madison Square Garden.
According to Fox Sports’ President of Analytics and Insights Michael Mulvihill, as of the July 7 episode of SmackDown, the show has undergone a change, as it will now be recategorized as an entertainment program instead of a sports program.
Michael Mulvihill took to Twitter and confirmed the change while revealing the incredible results the first show had in its new category, especially in the key 18-49 demographic.
For ratings purposes, WWE SmackDown was recategorized as an entertainment program beginning last week.
In its first airing as such, SmackDown was the #1 entertainment show of the week among Adults 18-49 (0.76 rtg/986k viewers).
The Bloodline segment that opened the show last week on Smackdown drew over 3 million viewers and scored a huge 0.94 18-49 rating. WWE is truly doing well for itself right now and we’ll have to see whether the company will continue to break records in the coming months.
