Cody Rhodes is one of the biggest Superstars in WWE right now and it was been building up since his return at WrestleMania 38 last year. Rhodes is clearly incredibly over and that was apparent for a long time now. Now it appears he admitted a big struggle about his character.
Cody Rhodes’ dreams were ruined after he was unable to defeat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, despite his best efforts. Right after that, he began feuding with Brock Lesnar, which got reignited last week on RAW.
Throughout his pro wrestling journey, his father Dusty Rhodes has been an integral part of his growth in every single company he has been a part of. Cody Rhodes just wants to finish the story his father never could.
While speaking on Keyshawn, JWill & Max on ESPN Radio, Cody Rhodes was asked about creating his own legacy separate from his father’s. The American Nightmare admitted that he struggles to be different from his father and brother Dustin Rhodes.
“A big secret there is when it comes to second or third generation wrestlers, this trickles down to any athlete where your parent came before you and did something great. The thing you don’t always say is, ‘I want to honor them,’ but also, you want to be better than they were.
Not in a negative way. You want to take it a step further. For me, winning the Royal Rumble. My dad passed away in 2015, it’s so unique that he’s not able to see it, but I feel like he’s still here with me. To be able to do some things that he never touched. Dusty did everything.
To be able to win the Royal Rumble, to go to WrestleMania and be the main event of the biggest thing in wrestling, I’m blessed and lucky, but I’m still on the hunt.”
Cody Rhodes challenged Brock Lesnar to a match at SummerSlam on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW. We’ll have to wait and see how WWE will book their feud in the coming weeks.
