CM Punk is back in AEW, and that made some fans very happy to see. Now, it seems that his history in the business is getting a new spotlight, and that is bringing out certain accusations.
CM Punk recently shared an intriguing revelation about his “Best in the World” moniker. While speaking to Not Sam Wrestling, CM Punk had to admit that his nickname was not an original idea.
Contrary to popular belief that the gimmick was created for him, CM Punk confessed that he actually took it from Bryan Danielson, who is a four-time WWE Champion. CM Punk and Bryan Danielson are in the same company once again, with AEW.
“I stole it from Bryan Danielson. Chris Jericho stole it from Bryan Danielson. Bryan Danielson was doing best in the world in Ring of Honor, where we both come from. It wasn’t meant to be hijacked by me or something. I said in a promo it is something I feel strongly about and I’m the best wrestler in the world.”
During his tenure in WWE, CM Punk famously referred to himself as the Best in the World. Even after his departure from the company in 2014 and his current affiliation with AEW, the moniker has remained a part of his identity. While it was widely assumed that the persona was tailor-made for him during his WWE days, Punk’s recent revelation challenges that notion.
We will have to see if Tony Khan ever books CM Punk vs Bryan Danielson in a match for that moniker. Only time will tell, because Punk’s second run in AEW is just starting.
